UC Berkeley will be looking a little lighter and brighter in the next few weeks after nearly 100 new energy-efficient LED lampposts are installed across campus.
The $2.1 million project comes as student and community groups make greater use of the central campus in the evening hours.
The locations of the of the posts were chosen following studies by technical engineers and investigative nighttime walks with students, staff and UC police experts.
At the same time, a separate project will upgrade the bulbs on another 1,000 existing campus lampposts with state-of-the art LED bulbs that have a brighter, warmer light.
