Zero Waste Fellows, ASUC EAVP Team Local, SERC and GCR partner for recycling programNow in its seventh year, the student-led furniture and household item recycling program Cooperative Reuse kicked off on May 17 at the southwest parking lot of Clark Kerr. Zero Waste Fellows from the Office of Sustainability have been hard at work all semester, planning this year’s event, which welcomes donations of reusable furniture from Cal students moving out of private housing on the Southside. Items are offered for free to the larger community. Goodwill of San Francisco Bay is back this year to accept clothing, books and small household items; Gig Car Share has a deal for students (1 hour free!); and Chipman Relocation and Logistics (movers pictured top right) is our partner providing free pick-ups for larger furniture items. Come visit students (and pro staff from SERC, RSSP, OASIS and GCR) who are passionate about making moving out more sustainable each year. This year, the office of ASUC EAVP Alex Edgar and Local Affairs chief Nick Grosh have been critical partners, working closely with ZWC Fellows Tatum Hurley, Tiffany Mar (pictured in vest) and Sylver Cheesemen to convene the Cal Move Out Coalition and providing student workers with stipends; and both the PHC and IFC are providing funds to support the program. The program is a result of collaboration between student leaders, the city, campus and community groups and this year ends on May 27.
