As the academic year 2023-2024 comes to an end, UC Berkeley's Business Air Travel Carbon Mitigation Program marks its first anniversary with a diverse portfolio of exciting projects ready for showcase. Three projects were initiated during the inaugural year, all with the aim of mitigating the impacts of air travel. The program was recognized with the 2023 California Higher Education Change Leader Award. The three projects are:
Project 1: ULT Freezer Replacement Incentives to replace eleven ultra-low temperature (ULT) freezers that are over 15 years old with energy efficient Energy Star freezers. Round two of the program is now open for application.
Project 2: Sustainable Travel Event at UC Berkeley Campus. The event included a number of travel partners discussing their sustainable practices.
Project 3: Hybrid Meeting Rooms to Reduce the Need for Travel. The initiative involves identifying conference rooms accessible to multiple departments that are in need of hybrid meeting technology upgrades. These selected spaces will undergo enhancements with state-of-the-art audiovisual and video conferencing systems, ensuring seamless and efficient hybrid meetings.
