Did you know that during last year’s winter curtailment, UC Berkeley saved 711,000 kWh of electricity – approximately enough to power 64 households for one month - and 49,800 therms of steam, for cost savings to the campus of approximately $113,000?

As part of Berkeley’s annual energy curtailment, heating and ventilation will be curtailed on campus starting at the end of the business day on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 through Thursday, January 1, 2015. Given that normal electric service is maintained at all times, it is essential to turn off and unplug appliances before leaving. The last person present in a given office or building should follow the checklist below to ensure that as little energy as possible is wasted.

Labs and research buildings are encouraged to participate in energy curtailment – please contact Kevin Ng in the Energy Office at kevin.ng@berkeley.edu to discuss options. Units interested in curtailing energy for a longer period of time are also welcome to contact the Energy Office to find out how.
