Green Certifications

Green Certifications is a new program offered at UC Berkeley to identity and recognize departments/events on campus that have taken extra steps to have greener operations and lower their environmental footprint.

Sustainable Copy Paper Guidelines: UC Berkeley has guidelines phasing out the use of virgin paper, while adopting a minimum standard of 30% post-consumer waste (PCW) recycled content paper for all copy paper and encouraging a higher standard of 100% PCW recycled content copy paper where appropriate.

 

Campus Grants 

There are numerous grant opportunities for projects on campus.

CACS Green Fund Grant provides funding for members of the campus community to undertake small projects that will create a greener, more environmentally sustainable campus.

TGIF-The Green Initiative Fund is a grant program for campus sustainability projects.  Funded by a student fee, bbout $250,000 per year is available.

Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability (CACS): Advises the Chancellor on matters pertaining to the environment and sustainability at UC Berkeley - CACS draws strength from its diverse composition of faculty, staff, students and alumni.

Cal’s Climate Action Partnership Steering Committee advises and provides a forum for stakeholders from across campus to provide input to campus climate action. The committee has more than thirty active members from student organizations, staff, faculty and administration.

  • Building Sustainability at Cal is a service learning program, coordinated by students, that trains and utilizes students to help reduce the environmental footprint of campus buildings by educating building inhabitants and identifying structural and operational changes that can be made to buildings and campus as a whole. 
  • PowerSave Campus is a student-led campaign to identify and reduce campus energy waste through improvements in energy use behaviors, student purchasing decisions and operations changes
