Nominations for 2008 Best Practice Competition

The 2008 Best Practice Awards competition is returning as part of the 7th Annual UC/CSU/CCC Sustainability Conference. Please consider submitting our campus's innovative energy efficiency and sustainability projects in this unique program, hosted by the UC/CSU/IOU Energy Efficiency Partnership Program.

Awards will be presented at the UC/CSU/CCC Sustainability Conference hosted by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, on July 31-August 3, 2008. The deadline to submit applications is Friday March 7, 2008.

2008 UC Berkeley Energy Symposium: Leadership at the Nexus of Science, Policy, & Business

The 2008 Energy Symposium brings together leaders in energy from both the public and private sectors to discuss the innovative science, technology, and requisite public policies that will shape the future of energy in the United States and across the globe. Example topics include 'Bioenergy Research at UC Berkeley' and 'The Future of Nuclear Power in the US.'

Brought to you by Berkeley Energy and Resources Collaborative (BERC), the 2008 UC Berkeley Energy Symposium will be held on March 7th, from 8am-6pm, on the UC Berkeley campus in the Martin Luther King Student Union building.

The Green Initiative Fund - Applications Now Available

TGIF is a fund with approximately $170,000 a year to grant to student, staff and faculty projects that increase UC Berkeley's energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. The application is posted at the link below. The due date is March 15, 2008. More information about TGIF is available on the website as well.

Projects will be selected for funding by an annually appointed Grant Making Committee consisting of students, faculty, and staff, in which students have the majority vote. Kelley Payne (student) is the CACS representative on this committee.

Strengthening the Roots: Food, Justice and Fair Trade

This year's Presidents Day weekend, February 15-18, the California Student Sustainability Coalition's (CSSC) Foods Initiative is joining forces with United Students for Fair Trade (USFT) to create a super-convergence uniting the food systems and social justice worlds. The event will be hosted by the Community Agro-ecology Network (CAN) at UC Santa Cruz. This is your opportunity to get involved in engaging dialogue, eye-opening workshops and practical activism trainings working towards a more sustainable and just world ...not to mention hang out with like-minded awesome activists from all over the West Coast!
