UC Berkeley's Cal Overstock and Surplus Den is Officially "Green"

The Cal Overstock and Surplus Den received formal certification as a "Green Business" on Feb. 27 from the Bay Area Green Business Program of Alameda County. Certification means that the Den complies with all environmental regulations related to disposing campus surplus property via sale, recycling, or re-use. A partnership of environmental agencies and utilities coordinated by the Association of Bay Area Governments, the green-business program assists and recognizes local entities that voluntarily operate in an environmentally responsible way. Its collaborators include the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Cal EPA's Department of Toxic Substances Control, and the business community. To promote sustainability practices beyond the campus, the Den now offers a Community Computer Recycling "drop-off" event for the community EVERY third Friday of each month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1000 Folger Ave. in Berkeley. The Den will also be hosting a Showroom Sale and Community Computer Recycling Extravaganza on Saturday May 19, 2007 from 8:00am-12:00pm at the same location. For more information on these events, see http://overstock.berkeley.edu , call 510-642-1186, or email dclipson@berkeley.edu, or sreckler@berkeley.edu
